Consumer Price Index (CPI) – All Urban Consumers

Source: U.S. Bureau of Labor Statistics

Frequency: Annual

This is the government's widely-followed Consumer Price Index. It is calculated and reported by the Bureau of Labor Statistics, within the US Department of Labor. The National Income and Product Accounts program within the Bureau of Economic Analysts use this data as they calculate price indexes used in GDP (Gross Domestic Product) reporting. Measuring prices (and inflation) accurately is notoriously difficult, with significant accounting issues involved.
