The Food Stamp (SNAP) Participation is the average number of people participating in the SNAP program on a monthly basis.

The Food Stamp (SNAP) Participation Share of Population is the measure calculated as a percentage of the total population of the state in a given year.

According to the SNAP website: "The Supplemental Nutrition Assistance Program (SNAP) (formerly the Food Stamp Program) puts healthy food within reach for 28 million people each month via an EBT card used to purchase food at most grocery stores. Through nutrition education partners, SNAP helps clients learn to make healthy eating and active lifestyle choices."

To qualify for the SNAP program, applicants must demonstrate requisite need, including proof that the household's net income falls below the poverty level. Complete SNAP eligibility requirements can be found here.
