According to Ballotpedia, "a state government trifecta is a term to describe single-party government, when one political party holds three positions in a state's government."  Split government refers to the situation where state government is divided between the two parties. This data point shows when there was either a Democrat trifecta, a Republican trifecta or split government in the state by year. The data for 2022 are the results of the election in 2022 but refer to trifecta status in 2023 after the elected officials take office.
