Tool could shed light on SC spending

APRIL 6, 2018 | by Andrew Yates | THE POST AND COURIER (SOUTH CAROLINA)

“In government, poor transparency invites bad behavior. The most recent example of this was brought to us by Santee Cooper, the state-owned power company. … South Carolina does have a website to track government spending, but it is woefully outdated and incomplete — inexcusable when everything from facts and figures to rides to groceries can be summoned in seconds with a handheld device. … The government is supposed to work for us, the people. But if we don’t know where our tax dollars are going, how can we effectively hold government accountable and fight back against wasteful spending? … A full public accounting of their spending practices makes it much harder for rogue agencies and reckless bureaucrats to flourish.”
